Letitia “Tish” Mayo came to the First Presbyterian Church of Glenolden in June, 2019, just to fill in when the last Pastor had to retire due to illness. It was “kind of a God thing” since the woman who called her was trying to reach her daughter with the same name. It turned out to be a wonderful beginning to a great relationship between Tish and the members of Glen Pres.
Tish would describe herself as a Bible teaching preacher. If it’s not in the book, it’s not in her sermons. “I believe we should always be learning,” she says. “So, I like to make sure there are some new facts or perspectives in each message.”
Pastor Tish is a Certified Lay Pastor from Philadelphia Presbytery, which means she has spent years serving in Presbyterian churches, preaching all over the area. She previously was an entrepreneur, owning several businesses. She brings many experiences from life as well as serving in many capacities within the church. She started teaching Sunday School at 14 when God called her to serve and continued a lifetime of doing everything she could in the church, first at Media Presbyterian Church and then at Narberth Presbyterian.
Born in Media to a family with roots in Delaware County going back over 300 years, she currently lives in Ridley Creek State Park at the waterfall, where she paints the historic homes in the park and grows lots of flowers. She is truly blessed to be a part of this wonderful church where she is part of the family. She has --- children and --- grandchildren. Her daughter, also named Tish, runs a very successful animal rescue, Rags to Riches.
